ILLUMINATE - Photochemically assisted biocatalysis: A platform for the continuous synthesis of fine chemicals
An interdisciplinary team of Fraunhofer researchers has jointly developed a cascade-based process in which several successive synthesis stages can be carried out without interruption to produce fine chemicals.
This is made possible by the use of innovative catalysts in specially adapted flow reactors. This makes the production of fine chemicals, e.g., for the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, more efficient and energy-saving.
The Particle Technology Group at Fraunhofer ISC has produced particulate photocatalyst and biocatalyst components for this purpose and combined them to form so-called hybrid catalysts, on which photochemically assisted biocatalytic reactions can take place in a cascade.
